CBD Oil From Hemp vs. Hemp Oil
The CBD story has a long history. Since CBD was discovered in 1940, a large number of researchers have written pieces to educate people about it. Still, some of these publications have confused people about CBD. For example, there is the subject of CBD oil. Most people confuse CBD oil and hemp oil, because both varieties come from the hemp plant. So let’s see how the two are different.
1. CBD Oil And Hemp Oil: Sources
CBD oil can get sourced from either marijuana or hemp plants. However, the fact that marijuana produces minute amounts of CBD prompts us to focus on CBD oil from hemp. The hemp plant has distinct parts, all of which are primal. For instance, it has leaves, stalks, and flowers, all of which contain Cannabidiol and some trace amounts of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
When the plant matures, its seeds lack both CBD and THC. That typically brings us to understand the difference in how the two types of oils get sourced from those parts. CBD oil gets extracted from parts like the leaves, flowers, and stalks of the hemp plant. Conversely, hemp oil gets sourced from the seeds of the hemp plant. We’ll see the different methods of sourcing these oils on our next sub-topic below.
2. CBD Oil And Hemp Oil: Extraction Methods
Large-scale CBD oil manufactures use the Carbon dioxide extraction method to source for CBD oil. Others use ethanol extraction to produce the oil. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t manufacture your CBD oil. You can use a carrier oil like olive oil to extract CBD oil from the previously mentioned parts of hemp. You should note that using carbon dioxide and ethanol extraction methods give you purer CBD oil. Hemp oil, on the other hand, gets sourced from cold pressing hemp seeds.
3. CBD Oil And Hemp Oil: Phytocannabinoids
Phytocannabinoids are the chemical compounds of the cannabis plant. These include THC (the most abundant compound in cannabis species, and that which gets the user high), CBD, CBN, CBG, and loads more. CBD oil has CBD as the most active compound and low levels of the other chemical components. In the case of hemp oil, it has no traces of phytocannabinoids. Instead, it has a plethora of Omegas like 3 and 6.
The phytocannabinoids end up bringing about different tastes and aromas between these two oils from hemp. For instance, CBD oil has different flavors, depending on the hemp strain it comes from. On the contrary, Hemp oil has a sunflower seed or walnut taste.

4. CBD Oil And Hemp Oil: Benefits
It is correct to refer to CBD oil as hemp oil. The same case applies to hemp seed oil. However, CBD oil cannot, in any way, get referred to hemp seed oil. It may seem to be confusing, but it helps when distinguishing their benefits. For instance, CBD oil works typically because it has cannabinoids that can interact with the Endocannabinoid System.
On the contrary, hemp oil lacks these cannabinoids hence can’t give the benefits that CBD oil does. The antioxidants and Omegas present in hemp seed oil make it beneficial for skin moisturization or infusing it in edibles and beverages. Put simply, the difference in benefits between CBD oil and hemp oil relies on the fact that CBD oil binds with the Endocannabinoid System while hemp oil doesn’t.
An Important Distinction
You may be wondering why distinguishing the two oils from hemp matters. It helps a big deal to determine the next step to take when purchasing any of the two. For example, let’s say you undergo drug tests every now and then…When you purchase CBD oil and use it for quite some time, it may reach a point where the THC levels may start showing themselves. With the case of hemp seed oil, you may be assured that you can’t fail any drug test regardless of the time it takes you to be on the hemp oil journey.
Secondly, the differences help you in settling for the oil that suits your needs. Let’s take an example that you would like to feel the entourage effect. The product that would cover your back will undoubtedly be CBD oil. Lastly, the differences help you in escaping being duped. Some unscrupulous sellers may convince to sell CBD oil to you, yet in the real case, they deal in hemp seed oil. Knowing the CBD oil hemp oil difference helps you in conducting due diligence and getting the product of your choice.
